How I Made More in One Day than I Did in an Entire Year

Would I like another glass of sparkling wine?

Oh, yes, I would.

As we headed up to cruising altitude on our plane ride home I rolled around in the moment… the delicious moment.

I had just spent 5 days in one of the most beautiful cities in the world and was filled with the most amazing, enveloping gratitude. For this, my friend, is freaking incredible.

A little background…

On behalf of Synergy Business School, I keynoted at the Digital Marketing Forum in Moscow last week. Following a day at the fantastic conference, we had two days to enjoy the scrumptiousness of the city. My husband, aka, the Tall One, and two of my team members, Mike Stodola and Taylor Cowart, joined me.

Our trip was everything.  We flew business class… we ate culinary masterpieces on land and sea… we toured with one of the top guides in the country… we shopped… and we may have had a cocktail. Or two.

I don’t share this to brag. I share this because (a) you should ALWAYS take time to celebrate the wins, and (b) this could have been a “never happened.” So easily…

I almost let someone else take this moment away.

You see, in the beginning, when I had just started my own firm, after landing my first big deal, I had an encounter that almost ended it all.

I was exiting our town’s Economics Club, a monthly meeting of business professionals, and I had entered wearing the smartest outfit I owned, as a little confidence builder.  After all, I was stepping out as “The Expert.”  And I was scared.

I had on my favorite sunglasses… a gorgeous pair of designer Pradas I had actually been able to afford at my close-to-broke income at the time because I found them on an incredible sale.

I was feeling pretty good.

Until I ran into a previous boss…

When I saw her, I greeted her warmly. In response, she looked at me with a slow smirk and said…

“Who do you think you are? A super star or something?” and she laughed loudly for everyone around us to hear.

As easy at that, I let that moment of her throwing shade darken my light.  Instantly I thought…

She’s right.  Who do I think I am? I am a complete fraud. An impostor.

Perhaps I should just go and get a job.

I questioned it all. And, that fleeting moment with meanie pants, held me back from putting myself out there. I stayed under the radar.  I stayed small.

And I stayed really freaking broke. Working all of the time and being completely broke. And I reached so few.

Thankfully… I got over that.

It took a while but I realized that I wasn’t created to serve my old boss. I was created to serve those entrepreneurs who were meant to hear from me.  Those I was created for.

Thankfully I got rid of the “head trash” and rose above the naysayers and reached those who were waiting at that very moment to hear from me.

And since then, I’ve reached millions.

In our 3daysto10k.com program, here are just a few people I’ve served…

But it didn’t happen overnight. And I needed help.

I had to join a Mastermind so I’d be surrounded by those who would cheer and not jeer and keep me accountable. Those who would inspire, encourage and celebrate.

And boy, am I glad I did.

What message are you meant to share with the world? What are you feeling called to say? Called to do?

Don’t let those you weren’t created to serve stop you from accomplishing your dreams and reaching those who are waiting this very moment to hear from you.  You were made to thrive.

  1. Glad you made it out the other side. Surrounding yourself with positive like minded people is a MUST! We can’t eliminate negativity completely but must learn to let it roll off our backs like ducks swimming in water – it’s all around them – but it doesn’t get them wet.

  2. Kim, I find your stories to be so powerful, relatable and inspiring. Your courses are on my short list of those that I will be purchasing in the near future and I gladly send people to your pages and encourage them to sign up and buy what you have to offer. Sending all the great vibes and respect because you’re the real deal.
