That is how I would describe my audience growth at the start.
It basically worked like this…
I would go to a networking event, get a business card, go back to my office and enter it into my Outlook account. Then, I would try and connect with this new contact on social media.
I knew I needed a way to leverage online marketing to grow faster. But that seemed intimidating because there were already so many people marketing online. How was I going to stand out in a crowded marketplace?
And then, it hit me…
If I am just myself I will stand out, because I was created uniquely…
(ding, ding, ding!)
There wasn’t a system in place back in the day. I had to figure this all out on my own, but thankfully, you don’t have to.
Here’s the scoop.
Let’s start with Coco Channel…the Ultimate in brand distinction who said…
“In order to be irreplaceable, one must be different.”
As in, if you try and copy someone else, you are going to suck at this branding for more sales thing.
What to do instead?
Leverage the thing you were born with that makes you unique. Your skills, passions and joys…they aren’t an accident. They are your God-given Super Powers.
I call them your Unique Competitive Advantage.
For instance, I don’t enjoy light chit chat at networking events, but I love to write and present. My Super Powers can be found in those spaces.
So, I’ve built my brand around writing books, emails and blogs, having podcasts, a Facebook Live Show, doing webinar and putting on events.
The things that come most naturally to me.
I am in my sweet spot of doing the things I love and getting paid to do them. And the beauty of it is, I then attract those to me who are drawn into the thing that they love too…
Match made. Audience Grown. People Served.
How About You?
To figure out your UCA/Unique Competitive Advantage simply go on a silent meditation retreat for 10 days and wait for the message to come to you.
Yeah, right. We reserve that for movie stars and unrealistic trust fund babies.
You can do this in just a few minutes while you wait on hold with a vendor or for the kids to get out of soccer.
Make a list of the things on your to-do list that you love to do. The things that when you look at your schedule for the week bring you joy and you can’t wait to do.
Looking at that list of things, assess which of those things have been most profitable for you. Which have brought you clients, or customers, or opportunities that have propelled your career.
When you identify your favorite things to do that have been the most profitable, that is your UCA.
Now, what to do with that?
Thankfully, you can leverage your UCA easily to grow your online brand. Starting with one post at a time and quickly growing your online audience.
I’ve put together a free workshop for you to show you how.
Cheers to your unique (on purpose) fabulous self.
