I did something most would only do in moments of necessity…
Like for an international flight that departs at day break.
Or a life-saving surgery that requires check in right away.
But alas…neither of these were true. I was simply on vacation.
And wanted at least one morning to see the sunrise on the beach. Which in July, in New Jersey meant my tush needed to be planted on that sand by 5:30 and that alarm needed to be set for 5:10 am.
As my alarm went off I battled with my brain…
You know you didn’t get much sleep last night…
You know this is going to be a busy, long day…
Will it really matter if you go…
And to that I said to myself…”yes, it will matter. Because next week if I don’t go, I will regret that I missed an opportunity to see the sunrise on the beach.”
(Asking myself “how will I feel about this decision next week” is one of my internal hero chats.)
So I threw on warmer clothes, grabbed my water and a cup of coffee and while my kids dozed, I walked to the beach.
And as I got there, I immediately had regret.
It was cold and windy. And cloudy.
This whole situation could have been a waste of time. Why did I bother?
But then, I remembered…
I can’t control the outcome. I can only control my actions. And if there was any chance of seeing the sunrise, it was going to be with me getting to the beach and planting my tush in the sand, so even though I think it isn’t going to happen, I am going to show up.
So I sat there, sipping my coffee to be warm, breathing in the moment of solitude as the waves crashed on the shore.
And I waited patiently for the sun.
And just then, at the exact moment it was to rise, there was this beautiful pink breaking though the clouds.
And I never would have seen it if I made one of many valid excuses not to show up.
Because we have to do what we can do regardless of the outcome.
So here’s the marketing success hack today…
Batch your content.
We can’t control how many people see our content, or if they respond to it, but nothing can happen if we don’t show up.
We have to stop making excuses and start acting in a way that our best self will be grateful for next week.
And if you need a great tool for batching content, I love Streamyard. I create videos ahead of time, and schedule them with Streamyard to go out weekly via Facebook, Linkedin, YouTube and Twitter. I loved that before I left for Italy, my video was ready to go.

Because you can’t control the outcome. But you can control your actions.
So show up.
